Quarry Project

Centre Point’s Quarry Project is accessible to all children attending Playcare and Wraparound care during the school holidays and by Nursery children during term time. The Quarry aims to be an extension to our existing units, giving children the opportunity to play and explore. It offers a safe environment with natural wood, a field and quarry which has been kindly donated by a local family.

Children are encouraged and inspired to grow in confidence and independence through small, achievable tasks within the natural environment through the seasons. Children can take part in a wide range of activities of choice using the resources provided including shelter building, cooking on an open fire, imaginative play, bug hunting and many other games and craft activities which can be either adult or child led.

Inspired by Forest Schools, a Danish alternative to mainstream education, this environment encourages children to develop respect for their environment and each other; they learn to work together, negotiate and grow emotionally, and we aim to encourage responsibility for nature conservation later in life.
