We pick up children from school either by foot or by bus. Each bus has an allocated bus driver and a member of staff escort.
We bring the children back to CPT and provide them with a snack and then they are free to play until 6pm.
During after school sessions the children have full use of all the areas within their unit, outdoors and the gym.
The unit is split into five different areas so the children can move from activity to activity and have free choice when they arrive. There is a staff member assigned to each area responsible for setting up, risk assessing, monitoring and observing the area.
The outside area is where the children can go and play out their feelings and emotions and best of all to have FUN! We offer football, tennis, skate boarding, rugby and other physical sports.
There are also loose parts (a term used to describe the resources that come from daily use within the community) outside areas such as tyres, wood, pipes, tarpaulins so the children can build dens, forts and anything they choose.
There is a mud pit outside where children explore nature and get really muddy to feel different textures on their skin. Along with the mud there is also water play with pistols, hose pipes and bottles…FUN ALL AROUND!
In the art and craft area the children are able to draw pictures, painting, clay work, collages, creative modelling and activities that are set up by the staff member for that day or week which can be a mini project chosen by the children. The children get to experience and explore a range of activities which may not be offered to them regularly which is a great learning experience.
The construction area is where the children can come and build and play with various materials which are available. The equipment in this area ranges from Lego, Mobilo (?), train sets, cars and garages. Also we set up wood work activities so the children can use a wide range of tools and learn how to cut wood and use angles and hammer nails.
Lounge/chill out area is where there is a TV, DVD player, sofas, bean bags, cushions, board games and a dressing up area.
This area is open all day for the children during after school but in the holidays the use of the TV is limited due to all the outings and activities which are offered to the children.
A child can use this area to relax and unwind and is a vital area for them in their play setting.
The kitchen area is where the children eat snack which is offered 3:30pm – 4:30pm daily. The substantial snack we provide is either hot or cold food which are healthy snacks such as salads and dips, fresh soups, fruit, crackers and spreads and on a Friday we have a treat day where snack can be chips, hot dogs, pizzas etc.
